Overview

On the Nomba Business app, getting paid is only half the job — knowing you've been paid is the other half. I designed Transaction Alerts: the flow that lets a business owner add the people and channels that should hear about every payment, so the right person is notified the moment money lands, whether that's on their phone, over SMS, on WhatsApp, or in an inbox.

The problem

Only the account owner saw payment notifications, and only inside the app. Cashiers, branch managers and accountants had no way to confirm a transfer had come in — so owners shared logins, screenshotted receipts, or called the office to ask 'did it land?'. Alerts were all-or-nothing: no choice of channel, no way to add a second recipient, no way to turn the noise down.

Reflection

Alerts feel like a small feature until you realise they're really about trust and delegation — letting an owner hand a slice of visibility to someone else without handing over the whole account. The design work was less about screens and more about states: verified vs unverified, on vs off, one recipient vs a team. Getting those quiet edges right is what made it feel dependable.
